Bulldogs look to bounce back against Edmond North Friday Night!

Bulldogs look to bounce back against Edmond North Friday Night!

It's gameday here in Edmond, Oklahoma as the Edmond Memorial Bulldogs take on the crosstown rivals, Edmond North Huskies.
Sep 7, 2017

The Bulldogs are coming off a tough 23-7 loss to the Stillwater Pioneers last Thursday night. Not all was lost though, as Senior Quarterback Blake Burgess threw for 203 yards and a touchdown. The 91-yard touchdown pass to Senior Receiver Chris Pope was a bright spot in the loss, and something the ‘Dogs can build on this week. Coach Merideth's focus heading into this week is to fix the mental mistakes and limit penalties on both sides of the ball. Look for special teams to play a big role as the Bulldogs took advantage of big plays on special teams in last year's victory against North.

The Huskies are coming off a loss as well. Last Friday night, Edmond North was beaten by Edmond Santa Fe 43-7. The Huskies turned the ball over 4 times and couldn't quite get the ball rolling on offense. The ‘Dogs will be counting on their defensive front of Charlie Suenram, Sean Sadler, and Mason Roberts to wreak havoc in the Huskies' backfield and force pressure on North Quarterback Ben McNaughton. Santa Fe running back Mbari Snoddy rushed for 151 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Wolves cruised to victory. Look for the Sophomore running back duo of Nate Williams and Darius Parker to find the same success in the run game.

North is led by head coach Tanner Roof. Roof is familiar with the Bulldogs as he served as the offensive coordinator at Memorial from 2013-2016 before taking the head coaching job at North back in the Spring.

Quick Hits:

  • Three Bulldogs rank in the top ten at their respective positions in stats- Blake Burgess (4th in passing yards, 459 yards), Chris Pope (4th in receiving yards, 224 yards), and Brendan Mitchell (10th in receiving yards, 170 yards)

  • The Bulldogs haven't lost to Edmond North since the 1st round of the playoffs in 2013

  • The Huskies return 3-year starter Hunter Richard on the defensive line. Richard is committed to Army on a football scholarship.

The game tonight will be at Edmond Santa Fe's football stadium and kickoff will be at 7pm. If you can't make it to the game, make sure you follow @emhsbulldogs on Twitter for live updates of the game.
